Scoring
The Scoring at Bayou Battles consists of:
100 Battle Points:
Win 15
Draw 10
Loss 5
Scenario objectives 5 (some available to both players)
Assume 100 VP difference needed for a win. However, since actual draws in 8th edition are more rare than a dwarf without cirrhosis of the liver, we may adjust this to a higher number…Final decision to be made by end of April.
60 Sportsmanship:
Your sports score will be determined by two factors: A) Post game opponent opinion (45 points max), and B) post-tourney opponent ranking (15 points max).
A) You will be rated by your opponent at the end of each game as either having Good Sportsmanship, or Bad Sportsmanship. You start out with 45 points. Each Bad Sportsmanship vote you receive will deduct points from your total, and each successive bad game vote is worse than the previous one, and the scores are cumulative! Here is the breakdown:
1st Bad Vote -3 points
2nd Bad Vote twice as bad as 1st, -6 for a total of -9
3rd Bad Vote 3x as bad as 1st, -9 for a total of -18
4th Bad Vote 4x as bad as 1st, -12 for a total of -30
5th Bad Vote 5x as bad as 1st, -15 for a total of -45 (Yes, showing good Sportsmanship IS that important!)
In addition, we will talk with each person that gives a Bad Sportsmanship vote, not to try to change your vote, but to understand why it was given so that after the tourney, feedback can be given to the individual on how to improve (if he wants it/asks about it), but also to determine if this is someone we even want to allow back in future years. Also note that if you give out Bad Sportsmanship votes like candy on Halloween, YOU may not be invited back!
B) Post-Tourney scoring is as follows: Each player will rank their Top 3 opponents from the weekend (and yes, you MUST vote for 3 and no ties allowed!). Additional points will be granted for each vote as follows:
Best Opponent 3 points
2nd Best Opponent 2 points
3rd Best Opponent 1 point
20 Composition:
Your army composition score will be composed of two parts:
Judge Score: 5 points
Opponent Ranking: 15 points
Judge Score: Independent judges will review each list and agree on a score for each list on a scale from 1 (hardest) to 5 (softest). These scores will be one component used to assign match-ups (along with your total battle score and not being able to play your “teammate” on the first day).
Opponent Ranking: At the end of the tournament, each of your 5 opponents will rank all the armies they played against from hardest to softest. They will give a ranking to each army according to the following scale:
1 (hardest list they faced)
2 (2nd hardest list)
3 (3rd hardest)
4 (4th hardest/2nd softest)
5 (5th hardest/ most “friendly” / softest list)
In the new system, each player starts with 10 points for Opponent Comp, and this value is modified depending on the number of Harder Than Average (HTA--1s and 2s) and Softer Than Average (STA--4s and 5s) votes it receives. Rankings of 1 and 5 are given a value of 1, and rankings of 2 and 4 are given a value of 0.5, and the total HTA and STA values are used to determine the total modifier. The formula for calculating the final Opp. Comp is as follows:
Opponent Comp = 10 – HTA + STA
The HTA and STA scores are determined from the chart below:
Value |
Score |
|
|---|---|---|
| 0-1.5 | 0 | |
| 2-2.5 | 1 | |
| 3-3.5 | 2 | |
| 4-4.5 | 3 | |
| 5 | 5 |
One nasty or squishy ranking of your list won’t affect your score at all, but if more than one person thinks a list is either hard or soft, there is very likely some truth behind it.
Example: Bubba received comp rankings from his opponents of 1, 1, 2, 3, 4. These would translate as follows, based on the chart above:
| Harder Than Average Value [1, 1, 2]: | 1 + 1 + 0.5 = 2.5 | (thus, a total HTA modifier of 1) |
| Softer Than Average Value [4] : | 0.5 | (thus, a total STA modifier of 0) |
| Opponent Comp Score = | 10 – 1 + 0 = 9 |
Other example scores:
| Ralph: | 1, 1, 3, 4, 5 | 9 |
| Cletus: | 3, 3, 4, 5, 5 | 11 |
| Sally: | 1, 1, 1, 2, 4 | 8 |
| Lester: | 4, 5, 5, 5, 5 | 13 |
| Walter: | 2, 3, 3, 3, 5 | 10 |
| Zeke: | 1, 1, 1, 1, 1 | 5 |
30 Painting:
0-10 points on the quantity of your army that is painted to the 3-color minimum. 0-20 points available on the quality of the paint job. We are enforcing a minimum 75% painted needed to get the quality paint job points.
Remember that painting is not required to participate!
10 On-Time Points:
Being on-time is important for keeping the tournament running smoothly, and we all know that you want to keep us tournament coordinators happy, right? RIGHT?! So, if you keep us from having to do more work than we’d like, we’ll toss a few more points your way:
5 points: Turning in your army list by the deadline (July 18, 2010)
1 point: Being on-time for the start of each game
